Kamadi Earth Mother Is Going Green and Healthy

It’s been said that “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” and that “it’s better late than never.”  With these quotes in mind, I’ll let you be the judge of whether or not they’re true. I’m a black female baby boomer who grew up in the south. Eating meat was just a way of life and part of my culture. It never even occurred to me that I could eat an entire meal void of meat or dairy products. Vegetarianism was not a part of my vocabulary. Starting with the New Year, my new life choices are making old habits a thing of the past.
It all started with a vegan guest for Christmas dinner. I searched the internet for vegan dishes that I could serve our guest and my daughter sent me a Vegan cookbook to help. I chose to make mashed potatoes, collard greens, candied yams and green beans the vegan way, free of all animal fat and animal by-products. The dishes were delicious and very simple to prepare. Starting the first of the year, I vowed to try eating vegan meals 2 to 3 times a week and within a few weeks it became 3 or 4 times a week with the other days eating fish. I couldn’t believe how easy it was to get into the habit.

Super Bowl Sunday I thought would be a challenge but looking up recipes on my favorite site saved the day. I found a wonderful Vegan Chili recipe that even I could eat. Usually, I never ever eat Chili. The chili was hot and spicy and I didn’t even mind the beans. I fell in love with hummus so I found a recipe for that and made my own salsa for a change. My son made cornbread which was also delicious. I am still pretty new to this and taking it a week at a time. I’m not totally vegan more like Pescetarian, we eat fish once or twice a week.

The whole idea appealed to me because it was not only a method of losing some weight but feeling better in general. I not only feel better physically but also mentally. I have battled with depression over the years and after shedding the meat and animal fat from my diet I am feeling more energetic and able to think more clearly. I can only speak for myself on this but I am very happy with these results.

Making these changes in my eating habits has inspired me to also look to natural products for my skin and hair care. I’m trying harder to recycle and do things in an earth-friendly way. I have a long way to go but I think progress is being made in the most positive way ever. I will be blogging about my progress and new business endeavors and introducing earth -friendly products. If anyone would like to share vegan recipes or other earth friendly tips I’d love to hear from you. Stay tuned as I get in shape for summer and explore my new lifestyle!
